Posti is actively advancing the clean transition of logictis. Posti set science-based climate targets in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2021 and became the first logistics company in 2022 to have its net-zero targets approved by SBTi. Now, Posti is further enhancing its commitment to environmental sustainability by developing its nature work using the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) guidelines for science-based nature goals.
The SBTN framework empowers companies to assess their impacts on nature and establish targets to mitigate those impacts. These methods are designed to support existing corporate actions aimed at addressing climate and nature crises, while also encouraging more ambitious initiatives. The framework further enables companies to better comply with the EU’s evolving regulatory landscape, including the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRs), which directly reference the SBTN framework.
“We have already committed to advancing our environmental work based on science. Our emission targets are aligned with the SBTi framework. Since climate change and nature loss are closely linked, the UN Global Compact program gives us a good basis for developing our nature work in the same way,” says Anna Storm, Posti's VP, Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations.
15 Companies Participating in the Training
In addition to Posti, 14 other Finnish companies are taking part in the UN Global Compact Finland’s Science-Based Nature Goals training programme, which starts today and is being organized for the second time.
The programme guides participants through a five-step SBTN process, which includes materiality assessment, setting nature goals, and discussing various strategies to achieve them. Moreover, the programme offers companies opportunities for peer learning and networking.
“Healthy nature is essential for life and a cornerstone of sustainable development. However, nature and its biodiversity are also critical to businesses. According to the World Economic Forum, over 50% of the world’s GDP is moderately or heavily dependent on nature and is thus vulnerable to the risks associated with its loss,” says UN Global Compact Finland.
Alongside Posti, the participating companies include Ahlstrom, Atria, Fingrid, Finnair, Fiskars, Grano, Hankkija, Konecranes, Neova, Olvi, Tradeka, Outokumpu, PunaMusta Media, and Sponda.
