Case: Reducing emissions through energy-efficient properties

We have many different properties ranging from warehouses to distribution-fulfillment centers and Posti outlets. In total, we have 508 properties (2019). Combined, they consume 74 GWh of electricity and 50 GWh of heat.

We work systematically to improve energy efficiency. We are participating in the voluntary energy efficiency agreement for properties with the aim of reducing the energy consumption of business premises by 10.5 percent between 2014 and 2025.

In 2019, the energy consumption of our properties had been reduced by 25 percent with regard to electricity and by 35 percent with regard to heating, using 2010 as the baseline.

All of the electricity we consume in Finland is renewable: in 2019, renewable hydropower accounted for 100% of the electricity consumption of our properties in Finland. We also have solar power production of our own at our largest logistics center in Vantaa.

Other significant measures to reduce energy consumption have included the deployment of LED lighting technology and the development of a virtual energy control system.

We are also assessing other opportunities, such as the use of geothermal heat.
