Celebrating the 4th Green Postal Day across the globe

16.09.2022

Today marks the fourth international Green Postal Day. Global challenges require Global solutions. Postal companies around the world are one of the few industries globally to have made a joint commitment to measure, report and reduce their emissions. In addition to common goals, companies share information and best practices - with each other and with everyone else. For recent practical examples, visit the Green Postal Day 2022 website linked below.

When postal companies around the world make a concerted effort to reduce emissions, we can make a big global impact. Since 2008, participating companies have reduced their energy use by 17.5 terawatt hours, equivalent to the energy use more than the annual capacity of Olkiluoto 3 nuclear plant. Annual emissions fell by 30%, equivalent to taking half a million cars off the road. Figures verified by PwC.

In total, the 18 postal companies celebrating Green Postal Day serve 330 million households and operate 600 000 vehicles.

Global challenges are solved at global tables - that's why we have a long history of international cooperation. We joined the Internal Postal Corporation's environmental work in 2008 and the UN Global Compact in 2011. In 2021 we committed to the Science Based Targets initiative and early last year we joined the Climate Leadership Coalition, a business climate network.
