The early-morning delivery operations of Jakelusepät Oy and Ilves Jakelu Oy will be transferred to Posti in the areas of Pohjois-Savo, Päijät-Häme and Kanta-Häme

Posti is expanding its early-morning delivery. According to the plan, the early-morning delivery operations of Mediatalo Keskisuomalainen Oyj's subsidiaries Jakelusepät Oy and Ilves Jakelu Oy in the areas of Pohjois-Savo, Päijät-Häme and Kanta-Häme will be transferred to Posti Palvelut Oy from April 29, 2022. The transaction is aimed at strengthening the future of the delivery market and ensuring quality service for customers in early-morning delivery.

The parties have signed a contract pertaining to the transaction on March 31, 2022. The change will not affect the subscribers of publications in any way, and the delivery times will remain unchanged.

The transfer of early-morning delivery operations to Posti builds upon the long-standing cooperation with Keskisuomalainen and is aimed at boosting the delivery of publications and extending the lifecycle of subscribed newspapers. The transaction is also a continuation of the transactions in 2017 and 2019, when the early-morning delivery operations of Kaakon Viestintä and Alma Media, respectively, were transferred to Posti.

The increased unit costs caused by the rapid digitalization of communications and decline in volumes have made newspaper delivery extremely challenging for all delivery companies. Providing delivery service that is both cost-effective and climate-friendly is vital. The circulation and delivery volumes of printed mail are also affected by the current uncertainty regarding the availability of printing paper. Posti is committed to developing delivery together with its customers and is also seeking solutions in the synergy of delivery networks.

“The home-delivered morning paper is an important and much-valued part of the Finnish media alongside digital services, and early-morning delivery is an essential part of printed publication services. This transaction is part of our delivery reform, which will enable us to extend the lifecycle of home-delivered publications beyond the digital shift. Our nationwide service network and, if necessary, the joint use of our delivery networks also contribute to sustainable cost development and emissions reduction,” says Kimmo Kauranen, Vice President, Media and Partners, Posti.

The early-morning delivery of over 20 newspapers, including Savon Sanomat, Etelä-Suomen Sanomat and Hämeen Sanomat, published by Mediatalo Keskisuomalainen Oyj will be transferred to Posti as planned from April 29, 2022.

Posti employs a total of 3 130 newspaper deliverers following the change

The approximately 730 employees of Jakelusepät Oy and Ilves Jakelu Oy working in early-morning delivery will be transferred to Posti Palvelut Oy as existing employees. This change will not affect other Posti early-morning delivery services or personnel.

“I wish the early-morning delivery personnel of Jakelusepät Oy and Ilves Jakelu Oy personnel a very warm welcome to our team. While the competition is fierce and digitalization is today’s trend, Posti employees have strong experience and competence in newspaper delivery and in service development in general. Members of our personnel also have the opportunity to develop their competence at Posti or in cooperation with Posti’s partners,” says Kimmo Kauranen.

Posti's early-morning delivery business has grown in recent years. Posti delivers newspapers seven days a week (depending on the days newspapers are published). Currently, Posti carries out early-morning delivery in the capital region as well as in East Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa, Satakunta, Southeast Finland, South Savo, Central Finland, South Ostrobothnia and North Karelia. Posti's early-morning delivery employs approximately 2,400 deliverers.
