Postal Services: Lightened mail delivery on Tuesdays and Thursdays will begin on April 1st

The change for the lightened delivery days previously announced by Posti will start on April 1. The current lightened Friday will become a lightened Thursday on April 1, 2022.

The change is due to the further decrease in the volume of paper mail and the regional differences in the needs of companies and communities that send mail.

Nowadays, a household receives approximately 3.0 addressed letter items per week. In the 2000s, the volume of letters has fallen by over 70% because of digital communications. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has further reduced the volume of letters especially.

We develop our distribution services together with our customers. By varying the rhythm of delivery according to the volume of mail on weekdays is an important tool that enables us to ensure the continuity of postal services for citizens and businesses throughout the country. One way is to focus mail distribution on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and lighten on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We will deliver newspapers in Posti’s early-morning delivery seven days a week. Other mail will be delivered on five weekdays. With regard of universal service, delivery takes place in accordance with the Postal Act. The change in reduced mail volumes from Friday to Thursday does not result to the need to reduce personnel. The change in the speed of mail will not be affected, and the change in reduced mail volumes from Friday to Thursday does not result to the need to reduce personnel.

Posti's service points and customer service will be open as usual, and the change will not affect parcel deliveries.
