Finnish junior ice hockey champions receive their own stamp

15.01.2016

The personalized stamp that celebrates Finnish U20 team's success at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship is available in Finnish Post's online shop. The stamp bears a photograph of three young champions who became national heroes in the World Junior tournament held in Helsinki: Miro Keskitalo, Kasperi Kapanen and Vili Saarijärvi. The photograph was taken by Yelena Rusko immediately after the winning goal at the finals on January 5, 2016. Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi designed the stamp.

The stamp is a 1st class no-value indicator stamp that will be made as a personalized stamp. It is available in Posti's online shop (posti.fi/goshopping) as a 10-stamp sheet for EUR 11/sheet from January 15.

- We wanted the stamp to highlight the positive energy the junior ice hockey team served to the people throughout the tournament, both in the rink and in the interviews that radiated joy and confidence, Tommi Kantola, Design Manager at Posti says.

Having one's picture on a stamp is an honour that reflects the subject's social importance or great accomplishment. - We think winning the World Junior Championship is definitely an important accomplishment, Tommi Kantola comments.

- This is a tribute to the entire team and to the excellent World Junior Championship that were held in Finland. I would like to thank, once more, Finnish fans who cheered the team during the amazing tournament with great enthusiasm, says Timo Bäckman, Sports Director of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association and General Secretary of the World Junior Championship.
