Finnish ice hockey player Mikael Granlund’s airhook goal at the World Championships made into a stamp

Mikael Granlund’s legendary airhook goal at the 2011 World Ice Hockey Championships has been depicted on a stamp. The personalized stamp has been designed on the basis of a press photo of the airhook goal. The stamps are available for sale today on May 27, and can only be purchased from the Posti Online Shop at Posti's website.

This specially published personalized stamp is a 1st class (EUR 0.75) No Value Indicator Stamp and can be used for sending 1st class letters or cards, or as part of other postage. The personalized stamp sheet contains 20 self-adhesive stamps. The price of one sheet is EUR 15 (+ delivery charge EUR 3.00).

This is the second time Itella Posti publishes a personalized stamp available for sale which is not part of the annual stamp publication program. The first stamp of this type was published in connection with the 2008 Idols competition.

- Usually, the design and preparation of stamps takes 6 to 12 months, but we wanted to have this stamp available for sale to the public as soon as possible. Therefore, we chose to produce a personalized stamp on the basis of the press photo as these stamps have a fast production process. The manufacturing schedules of other stamps are affected by the selection of the theme, visual design and mass printing, says Tommi Kantola, Product Manager at Itella Posti.

The stamp’s pictorial motif is based on a press photo (Lehtikuva/CTK/Michal Kamaryt). The stamp has been designed by Klaus Welp.

World Champions have their own postal address

Last week, Itella Posti established a separate postal address (02011 MAAILMANMESTARIT) for sending fan mail to our World Champions in ice hockey.

You can send your greetings to Team Finland’s World Champions to the new postal address, from where Itella Posti will forward your letters to the players.

You can send your greetings through letters or cards (with a 1st or 2nd class stamp), or through the Internet (starting from EUR 1.80, including the postage) at Posti's website. Cards sent through the Internet are printed at Itella Posti and delivered to their recipients as paper cards.

Write the following address on your greeting:

The player’s First name Last name

The address will be in effect until the end of June.
