In Finland, picking up online purchases from Parcel Points and postal outlets is the most popular delivery type. Posti is developing its e-commerce services by piloting Saturday deliveries of parcels in Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, and Kauniainen until the end of December. As early as Saturday 3 October, the recipient can receive an SMS on their ordered parcel and pick up the parcel right away.
-In the piloting stage, we are investigating whether the recipients will seize the opportunity of picking up their recent orders during the weekend. People often run errands on weekends, so a notice of arrival on a Saturday may be a pleasant addition. The Saturday deliveries create better flow and agility for e-commerce, says Anders Falck, Business Director at Posti.
Saturday delivery for thousands of parcels
The pilot stage covers 112 Posti Parcel Points and 56 postal outlets in the metropolitan area. The recipient can track the parcel in Posti's mobile application or website. The parcel can be picked up even without the notice of arrival with the delivery ID and personal ID.
Usually, e-commerce orders are picked up quickly; most of them are picked up the day following the parcel's arrival in Posti's service point. A quick pickup is an advantage especially during the Christmas season when the service points receive large numbers of new parcels. In several years, Posti has ensured the flow of the parcel traffic with weekend deliveries in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In the pilot stage, this ability is tested as a part of the normal parcel process.
Posti develops not only its delivery solutions but also the background processes of e-commerce. An automated robot-assisted warehouse to open in the fall of 2015 at Posti Logistics Center at Vantaa will enable even same-day dispatches for online stores.
Posti's consumer service is open also on Saturdays 8 a.m. - 6 p.m, Tel. 0200 27100 (local/mobile call rates apply).
