Itella Posti standardizes Poste Restante services to comply with international standards

08.03.2013

In April, Itella Posti Oy will standardize its Poste Restante service principles to comply with international standards.

As of April 1, 2013, all deliveries sent to a Poste Restante address must include the recipient's real name. No pseudonyms, initials, imaginary names, codes or any other similar markings may be used; the name and address data must include the recipient's first name and last name in full, and POSTE RESTANTE plus the postal code and town as the address.

When picking up the delivery, recipients must prove their identity by showing a valid ID card. Any deliveries not including the recipient's real name will be returned to the sender.

Poste Restante is a globally known service used by the postal services of many countries. It allows private persons to temporarily receive their post at the local post office, for example, when traveling.
