Shelf system collapses in Itella's St. Petersburg warehouse – causes damage

26.07.2012

Most of the shelf system has collapsed in Itella's Shushary warehouse in St. Petersburg. Three employees received first aid at the site, but there were no serious injuries. A large number of customer products were damaged, which also affected other companies operating in the warehouse. The reasons for the collapse are still being investigated.

Itella, the Russian authorities and representatives of the City of St. Petersburg have been cooperating closely to minimize the environmental impact of the oil products included in the range of products affected. The yard areas of the warehouse are now clean, and work will continue inside the warehouse.

Freight operations, the office and customer logistics services have been transferred to a temporary office in Utkina Zavod. Temporary warehousing solutions are being arranged. It is estimated that restoring the operations of the Shushary warehouse will take several months.

Itella has a comprehensive insurance plan, but the damage and liabilities are still being evaluated.
