Mail delivered between Finland and Japan as usual – interruptions in the internal mail traffic of Japan

15.03.2011

For now, mail is delivered between Finland and Japan as usual. However, there are problems in the internal mail deliveries of Japan due to the earthquake and the consequent tsunami on March 11.

Particularly Northern Japan, including the cities of Sapporo and Sendai, have mail delivery problems. Although some mail exchange locations are in operation, they are unable to forward mail to the following prefectures: Hokkaido, Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Mijagi, Yamagata, Fukushima and Ibaraki.

Their postal codes have the following prefixes: 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 30, 31, 96, 97, 98 and 99.

There may also be delays in mail deliveries to other prefectures due to issues in Japan's internal flight connections.
