Itella will centralise its service warehouse operations relating to fashion and interior decoration logistics, as well as its parcel sorting for the Lahti region, in Pennala in the town of Orimattila. A new logistics property of nearly 60,000 square metres will be built in Pennala, increasing Itella’s storage space in this location to nearly 90,000 square metres. The first part of the warehouse, approximately 20,000 square metres, will be completed by the end of 2009. It is estimated that the whole project will be finalised by the summer of 2010.
The new property will be built adjacent to the existing premises of SHW Logistics Ltd, which is part of Itella Group.
– This is a major investment in the Lahti economic region, which offers us both demand for logistics services and excellent connections to various parts of Finland. In the future, we will offer both fashion and interior decoration logistics services from under the same roof. This will enable us to further increase the efficiency of our operations and better meet the logistics needs or our customers, said Jarmo Halonen, Country Manager of Itella Logistics Finland.
In addition, Itella’s parcel sorting terminal, which currently operates in Holma in Lahti, will be transferred to Pennala.
– We are continuously developing our parcel business in line with customer needs. The shift to a large logistics centre in Pennala will enable us to offer, for example, more efficient deliveries to consumer and corporate customers in the economic regions of Lahti. In this connection, we will also modernise our parcel sorting equipment, which will improve our services to customers, Halonen said.
