Itella Logistics Oy, a Finland Post Group (as of 1 June, Itella Group) company is acquiring SHW Logistiikka Oy, based in Lahti. This company is the leading furniture logistics service provider in Finland.
The acquisition will further expand Itella’s Contract Logistics service range through operations such as the import of furniture and other interior decoration products, service warehousing and deliveries.
Since 2005, Itella Logistics has operated a special unit in Lahti, providing fashion logistics services for the clothing industry, importers and retailers. For Itella, the acquisition involves the opportunity to develop the entire fashion and interior decoration logistics business in the Päijät-Häme region and benefit from synergies in transport and deliveries to shopping centres, for instance.
Logistically, SHW Logistiikka is ideally situated with good connections in Pennala, Orimattila. The arrangement involves a total of 15,500 square metres of new and modern service warehouse and terminal facilities for Itella Logistics.
SHW Logistiikka employs a staff of 80, who will transfer to Itella on their current employment terms. The arrangement involves no need for staff cuts. In 2006, SHW Logistiikka posted net sales of approximately EUR 8 million. The company will continue operating as an Itella Logistics Oy subsidiary, and the current managing director, Timo Salonen, will continue in his position.
